ALERT!!!: Due to customer confusion, I am posting an alert in front of this article. The netbook is NOT being sold by Purple anymore. You can buy the Dell Inspirion mini 10 netbook directly from Dell via www.dell.com, or by going to any computer store and asking for a netbook.

Purple Communications just reduced the cost of their netbook from the initial price of $199 to $149. The D-Link wifi router is no longer free, and now costs $20 if you want to also get a wifi router. Keep in mind, this is if you have your discount code. If you do not have one, just call dream.purple.us on Mon-Fri from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Remember to call direct through videophone, not through relay. Dream.purple.us is NOT a website, it is a videophone number for you to put into your videophone to call them. When you call them, they’ll provide you with your discount number and also assist you with your order.
Some may complain that the router is no longer free– but consider: the total cost of netbook and wifi router would come to $169. Compare that to $199. Still a net savings of $30. Not much, maybe, but for me it’s enough for one tank of gas. In this economy, always good to be able to afford gas.
I’ve been asked how long this discount will be running– at the time of this post, the reduced price is only good for until September. If the company decides to extend the reduced pricing, they will announce it.
Some have asked me whether the netbook comes with built-in internet. No, it does not come with built-in internet. But it does come with built-in wifi capability, so if you happen to be in an area with a wifi signal, you’d be able to make use of it. Plenty of free wifi hotspots out there.

The D-Link DIR 615 N Wifi router normally sells for $34.99 refurbished direct from D-Link, and the Dell Mini Inspiron Mini 9 netbook normally sells for $239. The total cost if you purchased it yourself would be $273.99, not including taxes and shipping. Remember, when you buy with your discount, there’s no taxes and shipping. If you bought it yourself direct from the manufacturers, you’d also have to pay taxes and shipping. Anyway, not counting taxes and shipping, that’s a savings of $104.99. Good deal!

The router is a D-Link DIR 615 rev. C N-band wifi router. It also supports G and older-type wifi bands. I’m not particularly fond of the rev C router, as it has been a pain in the arse when assisting customers due to its annoying tendency to immediately apply settings without asking first. I much prefer the rev B router, since it has been extremely reliable and can be very rapidly configured thanks to its’ “Reboot Later” feature.

Hmm, as one of the early purchasers of the P3 netbook for $199. I hadn’t known that later models would be distributed with a free wireless Dlink router.
Is it possible for me to obtain one of the free routers, seeing that I paid full price for mine?

also, u really can’t get it thru dreampurple.us, u need to contact a representative from HOVRS in order to get special discount code, because representative need at least 5 customers or more to get this offer happened, if a representative has 2 or 3 or 4 customers but cant find more until expiration, there is no special discount of $149!
U need to get all facts corrected but this is kind of misinformation
@Dianrez- it is possible to get the wifi router. You will need to call help.purple.tv, and let a Customer Care representative know that a wifi router was not included in your kit, that you were one of the $199 purchasers. Make sure you have your order number ready so we can verify you were one of the $199 purchasers.
@Anonymous- the $149 deal has not yet expired. You can call help.purple.tv and get your discount code very easily. I know because I work in Purple Communications Customer Care. So believe me, I have my facts straight. I also took the liberty to check with management, and they’ve confirmed that the $149 discount is still in effect. I also checked the website store.purple.us with my discount code, and it’s showing a discount of $149. If you are having issues with your order, and need assistance, you can call either dream.purple.us, or help.purple.tv, and a representative will assist you.
And so you know, dream.purple.us is our Purple Account Services Team. Help.purple.tv is our Customer Care Team. Both departments are in the same building. Both departments are part of the same company, Purple Communications. Purple Communications was formerly two separate companies, HOVRS and GoAmerica. Both companies merged and became one company with a new name, Purple Communications.
And yes, you can get your discount code through a dream.purple.us representative. If they refuse to provide you with one, then they are violating company policies, and you should call help.purple.tv (customer care) and inform us of this violation so we can provide the discount code to you and also take care of the representative who refused to provide you your code.
And no, representatives do not need a specific number of customers before the offer takes effect. The representative simply looks up your discount code, gives it to you, then you go to store.purple.us yourself, and log in with your username, password, and your discount code. It will then give you the $149 discount. I’m not sure who told you that information, but that information is very inaccurate. If you could let me know who the source of that information is, management will contact that person and clear up the facts with that representative.
Just found out it doesnt expired, so u got it right
my information is still accurate actually about a rep have to find more than 5 customers for $149 discount each and now i actually learn that a customer can actually get discount for $149 regardless of how many customer. I’m kind of disappointed because I’m working hard for it for nothing.

P3 requires high speed internet, and will not work on dial up. The P3 netbook also does not come with its own internet access, you will need to provide your own.

You can call Purple Communications via videophone at dream.purple.us (or dream.purple.tv), and they will be happy to assist you with your order. However, I would like to also let you know that Purple Communications is not accepting money orders at this time, and will only accept credit cards or debit cards with a credit card logo on them.

I wish want to 3 buying new P3 laptop on this November, BUT I doesnt have enough money, because Last Feb 09, I LOST JOB at working… and I am be still working parttime night …and also I am be still owe payment to my billing a lot and also my not improving budget money .. and I am knowing that November 12th be END … WHY ? because I will give my wife, daughter and also me of 3 new P3 laptop … That is be END on Nov 12 on deadline… and that is very stuck … but dont worry about that… maybe I will more later and later, correct ?

@Rafael– the company will change their discounts whenever they want without advance warning. So they can change their discount anytime. You’re correct in thinking the $149 discount has expired. It is now $349.

That P3 $349?!?! Too much! Before on July 2009 for $99 P3 I want buy one for $99…
$99 and $149 both were promotional prices to convince the public to try our product out since it was very new. Now the public is very much aware of our products, we brought up the price to standard price, which is $349. I realize that this may be too much for you, and would like to encourage you to consider buying a webcam, because you can download P3 for free from http://www.purple.us/p3 .
I’d also like to add that the reason the prices are at that level is so we’re able to pay for development of better features and products for you. If we kept the price at $99, we would be losing money since it is very expensive for us to buy the netbooks– it costs more than $349 when buying direct from Dell.
