Don’t Touch That Tea!

I’ve always been taught that tea is good for you (as long as it’s unsweetened). Then I ran across a couple of sites that claimed tea was diuretic, therefore if one drank tea, one would have to drink water to make up for the water loss. For those who’re wondering:

Diuretic: A substance that increases the amount of urine passed.

Then one day, I decided to do a bit of research, and found out that it’s still healthy to drink tea and have it count as water. Allow me to explain.

Caffeine in itself is what is diuretic. But even then, for it to have any affect on water loss, you’d have to ingest about 300 mg of caffeine. That’s about 6-7 cups in ONE sitting. That’s right, you’d have to gulp down six cups in a row without stopping to finally increase urine levels beyond the level of fluid intake. Tea also is 99.5% water.

In other words, not only are you not losing water just because of drinking tea, you’d also be being more healthy than if you had just drank plain water.

To sum it up; enjoy your tea!
